A. Breast Enhancement ?

Nowadays women are conscious of the size or shape of their breasts. Whether you think your breasts are too large, too small or not as firm as you would like, they can be a source of great embarrassment, making you feel unfeminine and unattractive. The female breast plays a major role in the body image, the feeling of being feminine, sexy, and attractive. Cosmetic surgery of the breast is not about being vain; rather it is about looking and feeling good about your body image. Breast enhancement is a procedure that is making a safe and just comeback after a bout of unfavorable publicity in the past. Breast enhancement aims at bringing out the breast tissue that is present by placing implants in a subpectoral position (behind breast and muscle). Breast enhancement is usually done to balance a difference in breast size to improve body contour, or to correct a reduction in breast volume after pregnancy.

It is often confusing to a prospective breast enhancement patient as to why there are so many varieties of techniques in breast augmentation and types of breast implants to achieve the desired breasts.

Breast enhancement with implants alone can be achieved with round implants when the patient herself has a nice round breast. Either the silicone or the saline can be used and the choice of which implant fill is to be used is one made by consultation between surgeon and patient.

Breast implant procedures can be performed on an outpatient (not hospital) basis or at a hospital. Breast implant surgery can be done under local anesthesia (only breast area numbed) or under general anesthesia (put to sleep). Breast implant surgery can last from one to several hours depending on whether the implant is inserted behind (sub muscular) or in front of (sub glandular) the chest muscle and whether the surgery is performed on one or both breast. If the surgery is done in a hospital, the length of the hospital stay will vary according to the type of surgery, the development of any postoperative complications, and your general health. It may also depend on the type of coverage your insurance provides. Before surgery, your doctor discusses with you the extent of surgery, the estimated time it will take, and the choice of drugs for pain and nausea.

No implant is perfect. All have their advantages and disadvantages. The shape may be round or tear-drop. Fill may be minimal, moderate or full. Don’t forget all implants will ultimately fail, so the prospective patient will need to plan for a replacement surgery later in her life. Some implants like oil and foam soon failed and had to be removed.

Breast augmentation: Breast augmentation, technically known as augmentation mammaplasty, is a surgical procedure performed to enhance the size and shape of a woman's breasts. This surgery is accomplished by placing silicone implants behind each breast. A few reasons for considering this form of surgery include: correcting for breast asymmetry, as a form of breast reconstruction following breast cancer, and as a form of enhancing the contour of a woman's body. Breast augmentation can enhance your appearance and your self-confidence, but it won't necessarily change your looks to match your ideal, or cause other people to treat you differently. Before you decide to have surgery, think carefully about your expectations and discuss them with your surgeon. The best candidates for breast augmentation are women who are looking for improvement, not perfection, in the way they look. If you're physically healthy and realistic in your expectations, you may be a good candidate.

Breast lift- Mastopexy: The breast sags down as a result of stretching from breast-feeding, weight loss and gravity. If the size of the breast is adequate, then reshaping and lifting the breast is all that is needed. The incisions for such procedures can vary depending on the magnitude of the droopiness of the breast. Small to moderate lifts require a small incision around the areola with possibly a small, vertical incision. To minimize the amount of scarring, the procedure should be discussed with a plastic, cosmetic surgeon who is familiar with all the new procedures and technology. A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a surgical procedure to raise and reshape sagging breasts. The procedure can also reduce the size of the areola (the darker skin surrounding the nipple). The location and length of incisions will vary with the degree of drooping to be corrected. Breast lift alone will improve the position and shape, but not the size, of breasts. If an increase in size is desired, breast implants can be placed at the same time that a breast lift is performed.

Breast lift with enlargement- Mastopexy and Augmentation: When the desire is to lift the breast and enhance the size, in an effort to define the curves, improve body image, these two procedures are performed simultaneously. Breast enhancement surgery can lift the breast to a certain degree by breast enlargement only. Further enlargement and lift can be achieved through the use of a breast implant. Every possible opportunity and technique should be used to minimize the scar. Breast lift with breast augmentation requires only an incision around the areola.
